Abstract:The bearing of a wind turbine experienced abnormal vibrations after merely 1440 hours of operation, significantly deviating from the expected normal service life . To ascertain the cause, the malfunctioning bearing was disassembled for inspection. Upon disas- sembly,it was observed that both the inner and outer races of the bearing exhibited notable spalling. To investigate the root cause of bearing failure, this study employed scanning electron microscopy(SEM)for microscopic structural observation,direct-reading spec- troscopy for material composition analysis, and metallographic analysis for examining the microstructural state . The results indicate that improper assembly resulting in abnormal axial loading is the primary reason for the early failure of the wind turbine bearing. In response to this issue,it is recommended to strengthen quality control during the assembly process, ensuring that all operations adhere to specifi- cations,to prevent similar failures from recurring. Additionally, regular inspections and maintenance of bearings, coupled with timely identification and resolution of potential issues, are crucial measures to ensure the stable operation of the equipment.
