Abstract:
The initial source of Goss grains is one of the key factors for finally obtaining strong Goss texture in grain oriented electricalsteels. Based on experimental observation of the microstructure and texture of hot band, and using the reaction stress theory for plasticdeformation, the formation of hot rolling texture in grain oriented electrical steels was calculated under different external stresses, slipsystems, and reaction stress conditions. The results show that it is difficult to form rolling Goss texture when the { 112} slip systems areactivated. Under large external shear stress and corresponding strong intergranular interactions,a certain Goss texture can be formed onthe surface layer of the steel band when only the { 110} slip systems operate independently. The analysis suggests that the octahedralinterstitial site density is highest on the { 110} plane with the highest atom density, resulting in lower critical shear stress and higherwork hardening rate than those on the { 112} and { 123} planes. The slips initiated on { 112} and { 123} planes during low tempera-ture deformation are actually combined slip movements conducted by different { 110} slips that are repeatedly,in small steps in mutual-ly fixed or specific ratio under certain regularity. The high temperature thermal activation of hot rolling significantly eliminates the workhardening effect and the large pass reduction of hot rolling causes additional shear stress, which not only makes the independent activa-tion of { 110} slips the main mechanism of plastic deformation, but also forms the initial Goss texture on the surface layer of the hot band.
